A summary of the 2006 breeding season at BoaMorph

Our 2006 litters are described below in order of their arrival.  Our animals were very good to us in 2006, giving us a total of 72 baby boas including salmons, some surprise anerys, and coral albinos and hets from our Groovy line.

Coral Albino  X  Het Albino, Possible Coral
This is the 25% Suriname Big Daddy X Big Mama pairing that has produced all of our Groovy-line coral albinos to date.  The litter produced this year was not as good as we had hoped it would be, but did include 7 albinos, 1 paradox albino, 9 het albinos, 3 d.o.a. premies, and 19 slugs.  Unlike their previous offspring, some of these albinos were sunburn pink right from the start and should develop into some of our best coral albinos yet.  A curiosity in this litter was the appearance of fraternal twins (non-identical) - two males whose umbilicals shared the same yolk sac.  They were smaller than their littermates at birth, but have caught up quickly.

Groovy-line Coral Albino  X  25% Suriname
This male is the first of our Big Daddy X Big Mama Groovy-line coral albino offspring to sire a litter for us.  The female, a normal from the same bloodline, gave us a nice big litter of 33 babies and just 3 slugs.  Not surprisingly, many of these het albinos are extremely high-pink and we expect will eventually prove to be coral het albinos.  What was a big surprise was the appearance of 3 anerys (anery het albino, a.k.a. anery het snow)!  Unfortunately, one of these three had a neck kink and had to be euthanized, and another was undersized and only survived a few days.  However, the lone surviving anery from this litter has been strong from the start, and gorgeous!  We have never been big anery fans, but this one has really caught our attention.  We have no knowledge of the anery gene being present in this bloodline and are uncertain as to whether this was a random occurrence or if both parents are het anery and we just hit bad odds.  Additional breeding trials and some probability calculations may be enlightening.

Salmon-hypo  X  25% Suriname
This male was a 50% possible supersalmon that we acquired from Rich and John at Salmonboa, and the female is another normal from our Groovy-line that, based on her appearance and offspring, we have always thought could be a coral trait carrier.  This was a nice litter of 13 salmons and 9 normals, proving that this male is not a supersalmon.  Whether there is any coral influence or not, the color intensity on some of the salmons in this litter is outstanding.
